Self-Giving Love!!!

Self-Giving Love!!!

October 18, 2012

The highest form of Love for me is Self-giving Love. It’s the Love that comes from our Higher Self that part of us that is one with God. Unlike the EGO, this Love is not self seeking, it isn’t always “me first,” It is not easily angered, doesn’t fly off the handle, it keeps no record of wrongs, it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, love never fails and it’s available to us always, in all ways.

Just think about it…..that’s the way God loves us. God is always there for us no matter what.

So….as I was sitting in the silence this morning and thinking about about love, I was humbled beyond belief….I realized that this topic is way tooooo big for me to write about….. then, by the grace of God, I get the following message from Fr. Rohr.

Feast of St. Luke, Evangelist

The Gospel cannot happen in your head alone. You never think*yourself into a new way of living. You invariably live yourself * into a new way of thinking. The gospel is about relationship and lifestyle. Unless there is someplace on this earth where it’s happening between you and another person, I don’t believe you have any criterion to judge whether it’s happening at all. Unless you’re in right relationship with at least one other person on this earth, unless there is some place you can give and receive love, I don’t think you have any reason to think you’re living the gospel. Is there at least one place in your life where you are giving and receiving love? If it happens in one place, it can happen everywhere. If you are truly capable of loving one person, you’re capable of loving more than one, and eventually even your enemy, and finally all. Love is one piece. Love is all or nothing. You either express love or you don’t. The flow is either outward or it is inward. Luke illustrates this most especially in his unique and utterly subversive presentations of the “Good Samaritan” (10:29-37 [1]) and the “Prodigal Son” (15:11-32 [2]).

*Love can not happen in your head alone!

*Live in God and you will live yourself into a new way of thinking.

Feed your soul with Fr. Rohr’s writing for awhile. See where it takes you. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments negative and/or positive.

Remember to feed your Soul often….

 Love and Blessings,

Love does not boast, it is not proud, Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head.

October 11, 2012

Love does not boast, it is not proud, Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head.

What comes to mind for me first and foremost…… is that I am nothing with out the power of the Holy Spirit working through me. God is the breadth of my breadth, the heart beat of my heart and the manager of my life. Being blessed by the Holy Spirit in all that I do…..THAT!  I can boast about!!!

Otherwise I suspect that the need to boast or brag comes from not being confident in who we are, what we have or can accomplish. I’ve often heard in the O.A. program that as braggarts we are….. EGO maniacs with inferiority complexes. In other words if you think about the acronym for EGO, “Edging God Out,” bragging about what we’ve accomplished, hoping to get compliments to boost our confidence is really a very sad state of affairs. There’s lots more that could be said about this but I think you can fill in the blanks.

Now there is a fine line between owning who we are, sharing with others the gifts that  we’ve discovered in our life, and how God has blessed us, shown up and worked through us is different than boasting from a place of EGO. I think we have all experienced the difference.

When we know deep within our heart of hearts that we are children of God, created in God’s image and likeness and that God wants to work through each one of us using the special gifts, and a plan for those gifts, that God created in us while we were being formed in our mother’s womb. Remembering that God loves us always in all ways is all the self confidence we need, oh my…. amazing things happen when we remember who we are. We are given the courage to be all that we were created to be and do, and we will prosper in all areas of our lives no matter what happens along the way. We will be grateful for all that we are and we will be praising and bragging about how God lives in us and works through us.

I read a quote this morning by John Henry Newman that says, “To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.” What that means for me is we are to live our lives, to the best of our ability, listening for guidance, asking for courage to move forward, making mistakes, adjusting our course along way. Sometimes we have to make U turns. More than once I’ve had to let go of my old ideas and be open to new scary possibilities. There is that kind of power in God’s Love….go for it!!!

A Little Bit About Envy …..

October 5, 2012

Love does not envy, Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have….

It’s been a very long time since I’ve envied anyone but I’m sure that sometime or another in my life I have been envious of someone. Maybe because they were thin and/or had beautiful clothes that I could not afford at the time, or had a talent that was not one of my gifts.

But today, by the grace of God I do not suffer from this crippling frame of mind. I say crippling because if we are spending time feeling badly and wanting things to be different than they are…..this attitude gets in our way of our self discovery.

If we truly love ourselves and accept who we are, we are then in a better position to discover our gifts and what our purpose is for being born.

Envy is a debilitating attitude that must be recognized for what it is and to the best of our ability, notice it and let it go.

Now there are times when I see something someone else has or is doing and I think, “I’d like to be able to have_______ or do ______!”  For a few seconds I do covet what my neighbor has or is doing and even think why can’t I have or do _______? Today, more often than not I quickly change the envious thought to one of appreciation and gratitude for all my friend has and is able to do. Sometimes I have to kind of fake it but if I stay with the new thoughts and listen for where appreciation and gratitude take me, eventually the rest of me catches up and I truly feel blessed to know and see my friend in the light of Love.

Jesus said something like this: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” I say….”Fix your attention on God.” You’ll be changed from the inside out. My personal experience is that….that’s the only way change becomes permanent….from the inside out. You can’t make it happen however you can cooperate with the Holy Spirit and then change happens. Anticipate miracles, miracles do happen.

Remember to Feed You Soul….so change can happen!!!

Love & Blessings galore,

Presumptuous and Arrogant!!!

October 1, 2012

Presumptuous and Arrogant!!!

As I was sitting here one morning about four days ago, just being with my Self, contemplating God and Love I realized that what I’ve written so far is presumptuous and arrogant of me to think I know anything at all about God or about the true essence of Love.

I write with the purpose of growing spiritually myself. In order to do that I need to be vigorously honest with myself and with you.

So I was reminded that I need to own…. that when I write, I’m writing about my thoughts and feelings. To the best of my ability I let my thoughts come off the ends of my fingers and on the page letting my fingers take me where ever I‘m led to go. As I write I do my best to search deep within myself for answers that feed my soul. Yes! What I write is about my personal questions and answers.

I know that when I describe God or attempt to assign an attribute to God or even love for that matter, my thoughts are limited. God is more than my thoughts and feelings. GOD IS! Period! God and love are beyond description. God is always more and more and more. God is way beyond our ability to express, in thought, word or deed.

My process of learning about God and Love is limited to my experiences however, I continue to search, pray and trust that what I learn is perfect for where I am in life at this time. I take it one day at a time,  thinking, feeling and experiencing my life and to the best of my ability sharing with you what I learn along the way, encouraging you to find your answers in your God given guidance and pray that one day you will share with me what you are learning, whether you agree with me or not, I would welcome the dialogue.

With Blessings for an awesome day.

Remember to Feed Your Soul
